Jumeau Screamer

Jumeau produced character heads in the 1890's which at first were automata heads commissioned by the firm of Leopold Lambert. Later Emile-Louis Jumeau decided to produce these character heads. They were still produced in 1900 when Jumeau merged into the SFBJ company. One of the most distinctive of the series is model 211, the wailing child better known as the screamer.

Her body is made from full porcelain.

Her pantaloons is made of white cotton batiste and embroidered on front leg panels. It opens at the front with a pearl button are made in cotton batiste.

Her French pointed shoes are black with a black bow and tied with a fine black ribbon. Her socks are hand crocheted in black.

Her chemise is in cotton flannel with roses embroidered on the front edge neckline. A lace edging is hand crocheted all around edge. Her petticoat is three quarter length in white batiste.

Her dress is quite ornate in black and gold embroidery. The dress is three quarter length basic pattern with pleated skirt. I have embroidered a panel with my machine just like the lace swiss borders. At the top it has been sewed in a criss cross fashion in a triangle point finishing it off with the same pattern. On the neck edged I beaded it with gold beads. Same to hold the bow at the front and the neck pattern edged with beading on the swirl pattern. The tops of the sleeve are patterned too and encased with ribbon drawn to pull sleeve in. The neck edge is sewn with lace and same with sleeve. The top half of the dress is lined. The hat is made in French style gathered with wire pulled in to bonnet style. There is a gold ribbon around the dress to finish her off.
